A Day of Fall Fun in Shakopee
Freshly picked apples, corn mazes, hayrides, cider, and a visit to Minnesota’s largest candy store: Shakopee is your destination for fall fun! This family-friendly itinerary includes all the information you need to spend a day enjoying the season.
1) Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store
Start your day with a stop at Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store in Jordan, Minnesota. As you would guess, there’s a huge selection of unique and nostalgic candies. The store also stocks freshly baked pies and strudels, gourmet sodas, specialty pastas, flavored popcorn, tea, and even a dedicated section of bacon-flavored products. Many items are produced locally, including jams, jellies, honey, pickles, meats, and cheeses.
Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store is open daily mid-May through November. Be sure to bring cash or your checkbook—the store doesn’t accept credit or debit cards.
2) Minnesota Harvest Apple Orchard
Next, embrace the season with a visit to Minnesota Harvest Apple Orchard in Jordan. The orchard grows over two dozen apple varieties, many of which were specifically developed at Minnesota Harvest and aren’t grown anywhere else in the world. You can also find classic varieties including Honeycrisp and Haralson.
In addition to pick-your-own apples, the orchard has a sunflower patch and a barnyard where you can visit farm animals. For lunch, treat yourself to an artisan brick oven pizza on the patio, with apple baked goods including pie, turnovers, and cider donuts for dessert. You can also purchase hard cider that’s grown, fermented, and bottled at the orchard.

4) Sever’s Fall Festival
Next part of your adventure is a trip to Sever’s Fall Festival in Shakopee. The festival offers dozens of attractions for all ages, from a corn maze and corn pit to hayrides and a giant slide. Pet some exotic animals, ride a camel or a pony, and zoom across a zip line. You can even pick out a pumpkin!
Check the festival website for details on which attractions are included with admission and which require an extra charge (some vendors are cash-only, but an ATM is available onsite). There’s also a lineup of live entertainment including music, magic shows, wildlife shows, pig races, and an interactive kids’ dance party (a schedule is available online).
Plan on staying for dinner—several food vendors are located on-site, serving up burgers, pizza, hot dogs, and more. In addition, you’ll find tasty fall treats like roasted sweet corn, kettle corn, pumpkin lattes, and caramel apples.
Sever’s Fall Festival is open weekends Saturday, September 17 through Sunday, October 30, 2022, with special extended hours on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21 for MEA weekend. Plan to arrive at least 1.5 hours before closing so that you have enough time to enjoy the festival. Tickets can be pre-purchased online.
4) Tricks and Treats at Valleyfair
Finally, end your autumn day of fun at the new Tricks and Treats festival at Valleyfair! As Valleyfair transforms their Halloween celebrations from Halloween Haunt to Tricks and Treats, their new, over-the-top, larger-than-life event will be the perfect celebration for people of all ages.
In addition to the rides and attractions at the upper-Midwest’s largest amusement park, families will also be able to venture through the activities as part of Tricks and Treats including The Land of Tricks, The Land of Treats, activities for everyone, live Halloween entertainment, and enjoy fall festival foods with tantalizing twists.
