8 Thrill Rides at Valleyfair You Definitely Need to Try

The Minneapolis/Saint Paul Metro has numerous attractions scattered throughout. One you will not want to miss is Valleyfair Amusement Park with terrific rides for people of all ages. Here are eight thrilling rides you definitely need to check out.

1) Power Tower

Located at Valleyfair, Power Tower is the tallest ride located at the park by 75 feet over Wild Thing. This ride has three towers, two which slowly bring people up only to be dropped at speeds exceeding 50MPH, or one tower which will launched towards the top of the tower. When at the top, you will get some terrific views of the entire Shakopee & Minnesota River Valley Region.

2) Renegade

What is great about this wooden rollercoaster is how fast you feel you are moving. What makes Renegade so unique is the experience of the twisting first drop, which is something you most likely have not experienced. This ride also includes a low to the ground high speed S-turn and high speed station fly-by. I would suggest trying to be in the front few cars for this ride because you will see nothing below you when making that first drop, and the speed of 52MPH through all the twists and turns will make it even more spectacular.

3) Steel Venom

Considered by many to be the most exhilarating ride at Valleyfair. Steel Venom is a single twist impulse coaster which will reach speeds over 68MPH on more than 600 feet of track. The highest point of the track is 185 feet, and the biggest drop is 175 feet. What makes this ride so unique is the launch points, both forward and backward. You feel like you are being shot out of a cannon on the first launch, and continue to gain speed until reaching the highest speed of 68MPH through the third and fourth launch. At the top of the fourth launch is when you get the biggest thrill as you make a dead-stop at the top of the track, dangling in the air before being dropped back down for the 5th launch. Steel Venom is a terrific, unique ride you need to check out when coming to Valleyfair.

4) Wild Thing

The tallest and fastest ride at Valleyfair, Wild Thing is sure to impress. The top point of the coaster stands at 207 feet and includes a first drop of 200 feet. The first drop is a 60-degree angle and you will reach speeds of up to 74MPH. Wild Thing is 5,460 feet long and includes four drops of more than 100 feet (207’, 103’, 130’, 103’). In addition, Wild thing has the longest low-gravity section of coaster in the world!

5) Xtreme Swing

When you think thrill rides you typically think coasters. With that said, Valleyfair has some terrific thrill rides outside of the coaster rides. One such ride is the Xtreme Swing, with the name saying it all. The structure of this ride is 100 feet high, but the rider will reach heights of 125 feet above the midway. This ride has two giant swing arms and will reach speeds of 60 miles per hour as you swing back-and-forth.

6) Corkscrew

The second coaster that came to Valleyfair, after High Roller, the Corckscrew has been entertaining guests since 1980. This coaster includes 1,950 feet of tubular track that loops and twists throughout. Riders can spin and turn throughout, reaching speeds of 50MPH.

7) North Star

North Star is a 230-foot tower that will spin riders at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour over 20 stories above the ground. This ride will give you wonderful 360 degree views of the Minnesota River Valley as it is taller than Wild Thing.

8) Delirious

Delirious is 70-foot looping thrill ride that coils riders upside-down on a seven story, 360-degree freestanding structure with a high-speed train. People who ride will start to gain momentum and races around the inside of this 7-story track.

These six rides aren’t the only way you can get your excitement during your day at Valleyfair. With over 75 rides and attractions there is so much more to do. Other amazing thrill rides include Enterprise, Excalibur, High Roller, Looping Starship, Northern Lights, RipCord and RipTide. Add in Planet Snoopy for the younger thrill seeker, The new Flying Eagles, live entertainment, and Soak City Waterpark, and you have a full slate for your day at the Upper-Midwest’s largest amusement park!
