7 Great Ways to Celebrate the Fourth of July in Shakopee
There are some terrific things happening in the Shakopee area over the Fourth of July Weekend. The only problem is choosing which ones! Here are some happenings which we think you may enjoy.
Canterbury Park has a full slate of fun activities planned to celebrate the Fourth of July. Head to the track on June 30 for Corgi Dog Races & Cupcakes. This sweet day of racing includes watching the cute Corgis wiggle down the track while enjoying a variety of cupcakes from local vendors!
From June 30 – July 5 Canterbury Park is having a carnival! The Canterbury Carnival will feature rides, games, and fair food for people of all ages!
Come out on July 3rd for their Fireworks Spectacular. Live horse racing starts at 4PM. Plus, enjoy pony rides, face painting, and live music from Rock Godz until the fireworks start at 10:15PM.
On July 4, come out to Canterbury and enjoy FREE Hormel hot dogs, Corgi encore races, Kid Parade on the track, Kiddie carnival, face painting and pony rides, and hotdog eating contest. Also, the first 500 kids through the gates will receive a miniature American flag!
Some great activities are taking place over the Fourth of July weekend at Valleyfair Amusement Park. First, June 30 – July 4 is Military Appreciation Days. Any member of the armed services, active or veteran, will receive a free regular admission to the Park! In addition, members of the military will be able to purchase discount admission tickets for members of their immediate family!
Valleyfair is also having a 4th of July BBQ Cookout on July 2 – 4. Come out to Picnic Point and enjoy all-you-can-eat BBQ, including: pulled pork sandwiches, BBQ Ribs, Cajun chicken quarters, corn on the cobb, and more! Click HERE for more tickets and information.
Head to the Galaxy Theatre to see the All-Star Stunt Dogs! You will see amazing frisbee fetching, weave pole and barrel racing, doggy dancing, the big-air daredevil stunt, and more!

Get Historical at The Landing
The Fourth of July weekend is a great time to be in Shakopee if you are a fan of early Minnesotan settlers. Come out to The Landing on July 4 and take part in the Themed Living History Event: Independence Day 1889. Immerse yourself in a different aspect of life in the Minnesota Valley during the 1800s. Meet and interact with costumed characters living on the frontier, farmstead, and village. Other activities include yard games, a parade, making ice cream, watching historical baseball, seeing Raptors from Richardson Nature Center, and listening to a live brass band.
Rock and Rockets at Mystic Lake Casino
One of the Metro’s largest Fourth of July events takes place at Mystic Lake Casino. Rock and Rockets is a FREE family event where you can come out and enjoy area food trucks, live music from Kat Perkins and Jesse Larson and, the most important part, a choreographed fireworks show! Bring the family and lawn chairs out to take part in this wonderful celebration of America’s Birthday!
Live Music at the Mystic Lake Amphitheater
The Mystic Lake Amphitheater has some terrific acts performing around the Fourth of July Holiday. See Kesha perform on Saturday, June 30. Pitbull takes the stage on Tuesday, July 3. Or, head inside to the wonderful Mystic Showroom to see Grammy winner Melissa Etheridge on Thursday, July 5!
Happy Birthday America Parade
Some great City of Shakopee events are taking place over the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend. Come out to Lions Park on Friday, June 29 and take part in the Happy Birthday America Parade. This long-standing tradition gives kids and families the opportunity to be part of the action. Bring your decorated trikes, bikes, or wagons to show your pride in America. After the parade, enjoy entertainment and Popsicles!
SandVenture Aquatic Park’s 50th Birthday Celebration!
Celebrate the 50th year of SandVenture Aquatic Park at their birthday celebration on Saturday, June 30. To celebrate the 50th year, head to SandVenture from 1:00PM – 4:00PM for cake, games, a sand castle contest, music, giveaways, and more! Also, get half off memberships and $2 admission all day!
SandVenture includes a unique pool modeled after area lakes, a sand beach leading out to a sand-bottom, chlorinated pool. The water park also includes a 300-foot waterslide, two 12-foot drop slides, a diving board, concession stand, and more!
