5 Great Ways to Celebrate the Fourth of July in Shakopee

There are some terrific things happening in the Shakopee area over the Fourth of July Weekend. The only problem is choosing which ones! Here are some happenings which we think you may enjoy.

Canterbury Park

Canterbury Park has a full weekend of fun activities planned to celebrate the Fourth of July. Come out on July 3rd for their Fireworks Spectacular. Families can enjoy activities like face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo, or live music by Maiden Dixie until the musically choreographed fireworks show starts!

On July 4, come out to Canterbury and enjoy FREE Hormel hot dogs, watch the annual hot dog eating contest, and enjoy a wiener dog warm-up race!

Cars and Coffee will take place at Canterbury Park on July 1. Enjoy unique cars, food trucks, beer, and additional refreshments available for purchase. This is a FREE event to participate (or just spectate).

Fireworks At Canterbury


Some great activities are taking place over the Fourth of July weekend at Valleyfair Amusement Park. First, July 1 -4 is Military Appreciation Days. Any member of the armed services, active or veteran, will receive a free regular admission to the Park! In addition, members of the military will be able to purchase discount admission tickets for members of their immediate family!

Valleyfair is also having a 4th of July BBQ Cookout on July 1 – 4. Come out to Picnic Point and enjoy all-you-can-eat BBW, including: pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, Cajun chicken quarters, and more! Click HERE for more tickets and information.

All Wheels Extreme will return to Valleyfair beginning July 1. A finalist on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, All Wheels Extreme is a high-flying extreme sports show. Come and see some of the top best inline skaters, skateboarders, and BMX bicycle performers do their high-flying acts.

Also, make sure to check out the fireworks show in the park on July 3 & 4!

Get Historical at The Landing

The Fourth of July weekend is a great time to be in Shakopee if you are a fan of early Minnesotan settlers. Come out to The Landing on July 4 and take part in the Themed Living History Event: Independence Day 1889. Immerse yourself in a different aspect of life in the Minnesota Valley during the 1800s. Meet and interact with costumed characters living on the frontier, farmstead, and village. Other activities include yard games, a parade, making ice cream, watching historical baseball, and listening to a live brass band.

Rock and Rockets at Mystic Lake Casino

One of the Metro’s largest Fourth of July events takes place at Mystic Lake Casino. Rock and Rockets is a FREE family event where you can come out and enjoy area food trucks, live music and, the most important part, a choreographed fireworks show! Bring the family and lawn chairs out to take part in this wonderful celebration of American’s Birthday!

Happy Birthday America Parade

Some great City of Shakopee events are taking place over the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend. Come out to Lions Park on July 1 and take part in the Happy Birthday America Parade. This long-standing tradition gives kids and families the opportunity to be part of the action. Bring your decorated trikes, bikes, or wagons to show your pride in America. After the parade, enjoy entertainment and Popsicles!

The City of Shakopee is also offering admission to SandVenture Aquatic Park for half price on July 4!
